Adoptions are our main goal. By finding homes for shelter animals, a life is saved. Thousands of animals are homeless and come into our shelters every year. Adopting a shelter animal is a rewarding experience. Shelter animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, licensed and behavior and health tested saving you time and money. You can be confident that you will be adopting a healthy animal. In addition to dogs and cats, we frequently have rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, and even horses, goats & turtles. Visit us in Kona, Waimea or Kea'au. Click here to view all available animals!
What is the value of a pet from HIHS? When you select your next FURever friend from Hawaii Island Humane Society, you can do so with the confidence that your pet has had a thorough health and temperament screening. Each animal receives updated vaccinations, is de-wormed, treated for ticks and fleas, and spayed or neutered. These treatments from a veterinarian would cost $100's if not $1,000's of dollars and a great deal of your time.
Every adoption includes Spay or Neuter, Microchipping, Licensing, Collar, First Set of Vaccinations, Worming, Starter Bag of Food and Flea Treatment. All dogs are screened for Heartworm/Ehrlichia. All cats are screened for Feline AIDs and Leukemia.
