| Volunteers are being sought
for all locations. Interested people should contact our volunteer
coordinator Betty O Bryan at volunteer@hihs.org.
Thank you for your interest in the Hawaii Island
Humane Society’s Volunteer Program. By becoming a part
of our team of dedicated volunteers and staff, you will be
helping the animals and the people of Hawaii.
Volunteers help in many ways, and every position
helps animals. Attached below in PDF format you will find
a brief description of the many areas where volunteers can
work at HIHS, along with the training and time commitments
we request.
We ask that shelter volunteers make a minimum
commitment of six months. All volunteers are expected to attend
a volunteer orientation.
Volunteers must be 16 years of age, although
children under 16 may volunteer as part of a team with a parent.
In those cases both the youth and the adult will attend the
orientation and the training classes and participate in all
volunteer activities together. All community service or school
projects require the review of the shelter manager and staff,
and must be flexible in the areas of available work, timeframes
and supervision.
We hope you will find the work with us rewarding
and fulfilling. Besides the satisfaction that comes from helping
those in need, volunteers gain valuable skills in companion
animal care and behavior, customer service, and team work.
We also provide training opportunities for our long-term volunteers.
Please read through the volunteer materials,
fill out the application and return it to HIHS. Someone will
contact you to set up an informal interview and discuss the
opportunities available.
We look forward to having
you join our team!
